<기념사진> 시리즈는 작가 본인이 기억하고 있는 나와 생성된 나 사이의 간극을 탐색하는 설치 작업이다. 작가는 자신의 어린 시절 사진에 딥페이크 필터를 입힘으로써, 과거의 정지된 얼굴을 필터를 통해 현재형 이미지로 재구성한다. 이때의 움직임은 실제로 존재했던 감정이나 기억일까? 단순히 인공지능이 예측하고 합성한 감정의 시뮬레이션 결과일까? 본 작업은 단순한 이미지의 복원이 아닌 기억의 알고리즘적 재구성이라는 층위에서 작동한다. 과거의 스틸(Still)로 남아 있는 과거의 어린 나를 필터로 되살리는 행위는 더 이상 과거의 ‘나’라고 단언할 수 없는 제3의 존재로 변모시킨다. 자아를 재현하고 물리적으로 움직이는 기술이 오히려 ‘나’의 정체성을 분절시킨다. 액자에서 미세하게 미소 짓고 시선을 돌리는 ‘나’와 마주하며 우리가 기억이라고 믿는 것들의 진실성과 왜곡 가능성에 대해 질문한다.

    Moving Photography series is an installation work that explores the gap between me and the created me that the artist himself remembers. By applying a deepfake filter to his childhood picture, the artist reconstructs the still face of the past into the present image through the filter. Was the movement at this time an emotion or memory that actually existed? Is it simply the result of a simulation of emotions predicted and synthesized by artificial intelligence? This work operates on the layer of algorithmic reconstruction of memory, not just image restoration. The act of reviving the young me of the past, which remains a still from the past, transforms me into a third being that cannot be asserted as the 'I' of the past. The technology of reproducing the self and moving physically rather segments the identity of 'I'. Confronting 'I', who smiles finely and turns his gaze on the frame, we ask about the truthfulness and distortion of the things we believe to be memories.
